WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) -We’re continuing our series of interviews with Watertown City Council candidates ahead of next Tuesday’s primary election.
We’re asking three questions to each of the dozen candidates running for council seats.
On Friday, we sat down with Jason Traynor and MaryEllen Blevins.
1. What do you think of the job the current council is doing?
“I think there needs to be lots of improvement. Especially, I was not in agreement of the golf course price, $3.4 million with an assessed value of $1.1 million. I believe when I get elected, we need a budget amendment. Basically, whatever the city takes in, that’s how much we spend, and if there’s a national disaster, that’s frozen,” said Traynor.
2. What would you do differently on council?
“Listen more. Talk less, listen more. I believe that’s a true leader. We need to sit and hear people’s concerns more,” said Traynor.
3. What do you think the city’s top priority should be?
“Infrastructure, roads, sidewalks, the water system, $50 million. And also this common understanding, and just ideas. We need to just fix the priorities first. Protection, services, water, and a whole bunch of things,” said Traynor.
Traynor says he would have voted for the golf course purchase if the price was closer to the $1.1 million assessed value. He says he supports two pools instead of three and says there are needs that should be prioritized instead.

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Watertown City Council candidate Jason Traynor will stay on the ballot for the June primary.
Traynor’s petitions were specifically objected to by city resident Jeanne Barker, who alleged some signatures were not from registered voters, were incomplete, or appeared to be written in the same handwriting.
On Friday, the Jefferson County Board of Elections said while some signatures were not allowed, its preliminary findings are that Traynor has enough signatures to move forward to the primary.
Candidate Brian Watson’s petitions were also challenged by Barker for apparently having false signatures. One man’s signature was signed 2 different ways.
Watson has since apologized and withdrawn from the race.
Meanwhile, the general objection against candidate Leonard Spaziani’s petitions is no longer in play. There were 3 days allowed for the general objection to become a specific objection. That didn’t happen, so the objection goes away. Spaziani is told his petitions are just fine.
“It’s water over the dam. Let’s just continue going. I don’t want this to be a nasty drawn-out argument amongst everyone. There’s no civility on council now. Why continue that out here,” he said.
The fourth candidate whose petitions were objected to is Matthew Melvin, who has pulled out of the race.
The board of elections will still hold a hearing on Tuesday morning at 10:30 in regard to the objections against Traynor and Watson.

Watertown City Bus Transit still required the CityBus passengers to wear mask after Pandemic Covid-19. As community that care about people being force to wear mask and refused this requirement make us need to speak-up by conducted Peaceful and Gathering. People have the right to choose to wear mask or not in CityBus.
My concern is to improve the city become a friendlier and safe place to visit.
[20:58, 5/30/2021] Jason: WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) — Watertown is gearing up for the primary vote in its 2021 City Council Election.
One of the candidates is born-and-raised, City of Watertown resident, Jason Traynor.
Traynor shared that he has been interested in local politics for many years.
“Over the years, my passion for politics has grown stronger,” shared Traynor. “To learn about what’s going on and to help deal with the issues that people face in this community one by one.”
Traynor stated that he is focusing the majority of his campaign on implementing more mental health resources in the Watertown area.
“My focus points on my campaign is on
mental health services. I believe there’s not enough money to deal with the systemic mental health that we have in Watertown,” stated Traynor. “I believe if we had more money, and more down to Earth people that will sit down and listen to another person’s issues, I believe we can make them more impact the mental health community.”
However, Traynor shared one thing he believes the city is doing right: Infrastructure improvements.
Adding, “there are roads and sidewalks that are being improved. So there’s progress.”
Jason Traynor is currently running against two other candidates for a two year seat on
